Nose
Super oaky with chocolate notes, dark character with a charred quality. Deep amber to mahogany color. Slight banana note (ripened banana rather than green). Coffee bean notes. Rich and sweet with prominent oak.
Palate
Peppery front end that's not light, with good staying power. Nice caramel and oak without overpowering sweetness. Hot pepper spice rather than just black pepper. Chocolate on the palate. Peppery tingle on the roof of the mouth. Cinnamon jawbreaker sweetness without overly burning taste. Nice Kentucky hug that's warm and full.
Finish
More chocolate towards the end. Very oaky finish. Pepper tingling sensation. Chocolate and oak linger. Well-balanced with pepper and sweetness.
Really good
A deep, dark, rich bourbon with bold pepper spice, good complexity, and an impressive finish that justifies its anniversary release status.
