Nose
Overwhelming and impactful with stone fruit, cherries, and berries. Hints of tobacco reminiscent of old pipe tobacco. Oak, vanilla, and caramel from the base bourbon, with a little corn and the dryness of red wine from the Pinot Noir barrels.
Palate
Significant richness with deeply embedded berry notes. Sweet but not overly sweet. Balanced with a tad bit of spice on the back end and a little bitterness. Silky and smooth with a clove-like spice. Some spaghetti sauce sweetness character from the wine influence.
Finish
Mild to medium-length finish with leather and pepper notes. Warm Kentucky hug that slides down smoothly. The rye content creates a lingering presence with medium to long finish and evolving complexity.
Really good
A balanced, multi-layered thinking whiskey with excellent complexity from the wine barrel finish, silky mouthfeel, and compelling fruit-forward character that works well for those who appreciate finished bourbons.
