What’s your go to rye whiskey for under $25?
If Old Forester Rye isn’t on your list, then it should be.
Jim left a bottle at Big Chief’s, so the guys grabbed it and sat down for a review. This might be one to add to your list if it’s not already. Cheers!
Tasting Notes: Old Forester Rye
Vital Stats: A mashbill of 65% rye, 20% malted barley and 15% corn with an MSRP at $23. It comes in at 100 proof and is a tribute to the Normandy Rye, a brand acquired by Brown-Forman in 1940 with its high malted barley content.
Appearance: Old Forester bottle with a dark amber whiskey inside.
Nose: Sweet and sticky with cinnamon spice, some citrus and banana saltwater taffy. Just a little hint of fruits. A lot going on in this rye with it’s high malted barley.
Palate: Cinnamon, nutmeg and the rest of the cabinet of baking spices with just a hint of pepper on the backend. A banana nut bread with a little chocolate and some citrus is very nice. It doesn’t have a lot of depth and is very light.
Finish: With a medium finish, it just doesn’t stick around. It has a nice warming Kentucky hug as a Kentucky Rye should. Looking to add some excitement to your bourbon tasting experience?
