What’s a starter rye whiskey to introduce people to?

Jim was gifted a bottle of Basil Hayden’s 10 year rye so we didn’t want to waste this opportunity to do a review.  See what Jim and Big Chief has to say about this Basil Hayden expression and we hope you enjoy their review.

Tasting Notes: Basil Hayden 10 year Rye

Vital Stats: Undisclosed mash bill, but we would expect it to be a Kentucky rye with the rye being in the 65% range. It is 80 proof and has a MSRP of $70

Nose: Light and watery with hints of canned peaches and spring flowers. The spice of the rye is barely present.

Palate: Very light and airy with the canned peaches shinning through. Boiled peanuts, bitter fruit and white pepper spice.

Finish: Light to no finish with no Kentucky hug.

Overall:  This is a great summer sipper or introduction rye but it’s a pass for both of us at this price.
