Show Notes
Welcome back, Roadies, to another episode of The Bourbon Road! Jim Shannon and Todd are back at the tasting table with glasses in hand, ready to take you through a remarkable four-bottle lineup that spans Kentucky craftsmanship and Indiana ingenuity. Before the pours begin, the guys catch up on a Halloween weekend well spent — Todd's family trick-or-treat adventures and Jim's day trip through Midway, Lawrenceburg, and Frankfort that included the Rail Explorers bike experience overlooking Wild Turkey from the Kentucky River. It's the kind of bourbon country storytelling that makes this show feel like a conversation with old friends.
On the Tasting Mat:
- Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Super Seasoned Oak (Series 22): This ninth annual release from Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall pushes the boundaries of barrel craftsmanship, featuring staves seasoned for five years and barrel heads seasoned for seven. Bottled at 100.4 proof from a 72% corn, 18% rye, 10% malted barley mash bill and aged nine years, this 700ml release carries an MSRP of $179.99. On the nose it opens with a warm bakery sweetness — cinnamon apple turnovers and cinnamon rolls — giving way on the palate to apple crumble, brown sugar, cinnamon, and emerging notes of dark fruit, raisin, and cocoa. The texture is lovely and the proof feels well-suited to the flavor profile. (00:04:36)
- Hard Truth Seven Year Sweet Mash Straight Bourbon: Picked up by Todd during a visit to Brown County, Indiana, this expression from Hard Truth Distilling comes in at 112.3 proof, retails for $80, and is built from a batch of 11 barrels with a mash bill of 73% corn, 19% rye, and 8% malted barley. The nose carries a recognizable Hard Truth character — a fresh, slightly funky grain presence with vanilla and subtle spice. The palate blossoms with phenomenal texture and a wave of boozy, overripe fruit: Anjou pear, plum, and honeyed stone fruit, all wrapped in just the right balance of sweetness and spice. A complex and satisfying pour that showcases what Hard Truth is capable of with time in the barrel. (00:11:34)
- Copper & Cask X 10 Year Straight Bourbon (Inaugural Batch): The first nationwide release from Rhode Island's Copper & Cask, this expression blends 45 barrels aged between 10 and 12 years, all distilled at MGP in Indiana and warehoused across Indiana, Kentucky, and Rhode Island. The blend draws from both MGP mash bills — 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley and 60% corn, 36% rye, 4% malted barley — and is bottled at 116.4 proof for an MSRP of $75. The nose is a delightful layering of cherry cola, root beer, and dark fruit that deepens into oak and chocolate with time in the glass. On the palate, those darker notes take center stage: rich oak, baking chocolate, coconut, and orange peel, with the fruit evolving into a concentrated old fashioned-like depth. An exceptional value for a 10-year MGP blend at this proof point. (00:22:56)
- Elmer T. Lee 40th Anniversary Single Barrel: A very special pour made possible by Roadie Lynn Aubrey, a Frankfurt Bourbon Society board member and Buffalo Trace tour guide, who received this bottle through the distillery's employee appreciation program. This limited lottery-release single barrel is drawn from Buffalo Trace's Mash Bill #2 — the same bill behind Blanton's, Rock Hill Farms, and Hancock's Reserve — and clocks in at a commanding 135 proof (within a reported range of 126–139 proof across barrels), with an estimated age of eight to nine years and an MSRP of $100. The nose is elegant and classically Mash Bill #2 in character — dusty cherry, honey, subtle tea, and a touch of Amaretto. The palate delivers a powerful, full-bodied experience with ripe dark cherry, hints of grape, and the concentrated depth and structure that only high-proof single barrel whiskey can provide. A memorable and rare expression of one of bourbon's most storied names. (00:30:31)
Four exceptional bottles, four very different stories — from Woodford's experimental barrel science to Indiana's quietly impressive aged whiskey programs to a once-in-a-generation Elmer T. Lee expression. Whether you're a longtime Roadie or just finding us for the first time, this episode is a reminder of just how wide and wonderful the bourbon road truly is. Keep those glasses filled, subscribe wherever you listen, and come join the conversation over at TheBourbanRoad.com. We'll see you down the road.

It's been a week of Mondays but the weekend's here Dust on my boots and a smile with my beard Neons humming low where the nose our name Same old bar stools but it never feels the same We raise a glass to the miles we've made To the stories told and the dues we've paid Amber light in a crystal glow A little burn and Where the good times roll Passin' bottles like a piece of soul Every pore's a memory, every sip a spark Lightin' up the night in the Kentucky dark Ain't no mail, just the ties we've sewn On the long windin' bird
Welcome roadies and new listeners to another episode of the Bourbon Road podcast. Todd and I are once again gathered with samples in hand ready for another episode. Todd, what do you have in store for us today?
So I've got a Kentucky, Indiana sandwich, kinda. So we've got two samples from Kentucky and They'll be the first and last samples. And then we too have two Indiana distilled products that'll come in the middle. And I'm very excited about this. This is kind of a little bit of a top shelf. We've had a couple of roadies that have helped us find a couple of these samples. I'm very excited for you to try them. Good deal as well as myself. And yeah, we've got a lot of samples in house again. You know, they kind of build up and so.
Well, before we get started on the sample, the first sample here, tell me about your trick or treat in Halloween. How was it?
Uh, it was good. Uh, my son actually went with one of his friends this time. So, you know, they're getting a little older. So they, I don't have to track around with them, but I did track around with my daughter and probably another army of like, Oh, probably 20, 30 kids and parents like downtown. So it's always, you know, we have a, we have a really good nucleus of friends and families that go to my kid's small school. And yeah, we, pal around and safety and numbers kind of thing. So it was a lot of fun. And so far I've, I've refrained from eating a whole lot of that candy so far.
That was, that was Saturday evening, right? Right. Oh wow. Yeah. We were in Frankfurt on Saturday evening. We saw the trick or treaters out. We were in, we were in Midway and then we went to Lawrenceburg and then we went to Frankfurt, we sort of made a day of it with Randy, one of the original co-hosts of the Bourbon Road. And we had a great day. We did that rail explorers thing. Have you done that yet? That's right. I've seen that. And you said you were doing that. How was that? Was it fun? Oh my gosh, it's great. And you get to take your break in the middle on the Vista looking over the Kentucky River at Wild Turkey from the other side.
Oh, wow. That is cool.
It is really something. Yeah. So I mentioned it for our listeners because I think they'd really enjoy that.
It's right there in Lawrenceburg and it's beautiful. Yeah. Was it a bit of a workout? Nah, nah, it's, it's got battery assist.
It's pretty easy. I'm biking on a railroad track for 10 miles. Really? And then you get to find out that it's got, it's got battery assist. So it's really fun. It's a, it's a good thing.
That's cool. That's really cool.
Did you all get any distilleries or anything while you were in those areas? We went over to the bluegrass distillery and Randy got to try the blue corn and the Spanish, toasted Spanish. Yeah, Spanish oak. And then we went there and we had a great time in Midway too. Midway is a great little town to go to. Agreed. Agreed. And then, uh, came into Frankfurt and did the, uh, house of commons and then went to Cypress and Oak for dinner and just made a whole big, long, giant day of it. It was just a great time. That sounds like fun. So not a cheap day, but yeah, not a cheap day, but a fun day.
All right. So what's in our first class? All right. Shout out to our buddy of mine named Steven Johnson from Hartsall, Alabama. He gave us this sample and we have Woodford Super Seasoned Oak. This is the new master's collection. This would be series number 22. So this was developed by master distiller Elizabeth McCall. This releases an experimental exploration into how extreme oak weathering and stay preparation affect the whiskey's final flavor profile. So you'll, you know, you'll see here, here, what, what 18 months, 12 months, seasoning on a lot of those things, even sometimes three years. Right. So these staves were seasoned for five years. Oh my goodness. And the barrel heads were seasoned for seven. The proof on this is 100.4. So that's a little different from those guys. The age is nine years. Their mashable is 72% corn, 18% rye, 10% malted barley. It comes in a 700 milliliter bottle and retail is $179.99.
All right. What's all this with 700 mills everywhere now?
Uh, you know, Woodford's, uh, they, they do send a lot over to Europe so I can kind of see why they do it, but. Yes. Standardize the glassware. They're, they're taking the emails from us. Yeah. Oh my gosh. That nose.
Oh yeah. I like that. Uh, that's, uh, it's a like, it's almost like a bakery, like, uh, cinnamon, cinnamon apple turnovers kind of, um, yeah, really, um, sweet though.
Very sweet. Yeah. Yeah. It does smell like it's going to be a really decadent sweet sip.
And, uh, Not getting a lot of spice on it. Just a, just a little bit, but really make it, make it, it's I'm more nosing this thing, but it's making my mouth water. Yeah. Same here.
So also making my nose run. I've got a little bit of a cold folk, so, but I'm bearing due. I can still smell pretty well, but yeah, this smells like, uh, a cinnamon roll.
But I get the, I can kind of get the Woodford underneath a little bit, a little bit of the, you know, the, the wonder that is Woodford. Woodford is a great bourbon, just a great everyday bourbon. And it, I've never quite gotten the 205 tasting notes that they say you get from Drake Woodford, but, uh, it is complex.
You know, you should ask Cooper how many you've gotten sometime. If he got, he might be able to tell us, he might be able to pull it out when he. All right. I'm ready to dive in. Me too. Cheers. Cheers.
It's got a bit of a bite to it, a little bit. Yeah, I'm trying to decide in my head how this extra aged oak staves has influenced this whiskey. And it does seem like it has, it's sort of on the nose, it gave off this really nice bakery sweetness on the palate. Very nice, delicious, but, um, a little more, a little bit of a bite, a little bit more, um, dry and tanning. Agreed.
I think your apple carries over. It's like almost like a apple. Yeah. It carries over like that apple crumble kind of thing. So it's got like that cinnamon, the brown sugar. It does.
It just, it just doesn't carry the sweetness. I thought it would, but it's delicious. It's wonderful.
The finish is a little short on it. It's got a really nice texture though.
Yeah, it does. It's got a nice texture and I think this is a good proof for it. I think if it were any higher, it might, it might bite a little too much.
I'm starting to get a little raisin now, a little darker here and there. That cinnamon is very prevalent though to me.
It is. It is. And that's not like a real characteristic flavor for a Woodford, but, um, maybe even like just a little bit of chocolate.
You getting any little chocolate, like cocoa almost.
Yeah. It's turning that way is the longer it sits on my palate. Um, you're right.
The finish is a little, it's kind of drops off quick.
Yeah. Short to medium. It's a nice hug. The sizzle stays with you for a little bit. It's got a great flavor. I mean, it's got a really good flavor.
I'm curious as to why, and I'd love to ask Elizabeth this, why they went from the, you know, they buried from the 90.4 proof to go a little higher on this one.
Well, but a lot of those, aren't they in the one twenties, the special batch proofs.
Yeah. And then a few, but sometimes there's still been like 90.4 on a lot of those. I'm not sure the percentage wise, but it's nice for them to step out the box a little bit.
Yeah. I like seeing something different like that. What did you say what the price was?
179.99. Okay.
So 700 mil bottle, 105 proof 179.95. Is that consistent with their other releases?
Yes. The master's collection tend to be around that. So I think, I don't think that's dropped or raised a little bit. And it's actually, you said 105. It's a hundred point four. A hundred point four. Oh, 100.4. Okay. Yes. So 10 proof up. Wow. Great start. Agreed. Agreed. And reminder folks, we'll be picking out our top three from these four for expectants tonight at the end of the show. All right. We're ready to move on poor two. I'm ready. All right. Now I got this one when I was up in Brown County and I had warned you we'd be having this soon. So this is hard truth, seven year sweet mash straight bourbon. Proof is 112.3. MSRP is $80 for a 750 milliliter bottle. And their match bill is 73 corn, 19 rye, and 8% barley. And this was made up of a batch from 11 different barrels. Wow.
Oh, wow. You know, I'm starting to recognize the hard truth profile real on the nose.
Nose in that. I get what you're talking about. There's like, it's starting to get their own little bit of funk to it.
Yeah. A little bit of their own funk, a little bit more of a, uh, yeah.
And the rye has the same.
So I wondered if it's like, uh, something to do with the air or the, maybe then the wild yeast that find their way into the. Yeah. Into the mash, but the, the woods around there maybe could be, could be.
That's a really good nose to it. Yeah. There's a lot of, uh, the barrel character I feel like on that. That's what's really popping to my nose to me.
So the Bourbons at seven years, this is a blend. Now they, now when they blend barrels, they're blending different kinds of barrels because they've got different barrel profiles that they use.
No, I didn't mention any of that, but. I know. Yeah. When you do a single barrel pick, they do right. They have like a, what they call it, the spiral state or spiral state. Yeah. Right. There's a few other styles that they use.
It's got a little bit of a fresh nose to it. Um, you know, it almost comes across a little rye like, but I think that's just me thinking mostly what I get from hard truth is rise. I was gonna say, yeah, right.
Thought of vanilla on there.
Yeah. And those in the proof, I, I'm not picking out any like, uh, like fruit notes really.
No, their ride tends to come up. That's a great, yeah. Their rise tend to come off very fruity, like almost like, uh, those cans of mixed fruit a little bit. Yeah.
So, right. Let me taste it. Cheers. Cheers. Wow. Phenomenal texture. Oh, wow. Wow. There's some fruits there. There are some fruits there. Yep. This is, um, this is like a, uh, like drunken fruits, like, uh, drunken fruits, you know, like soaked in like fruits that are soaked in alcohol. Um, like, uh, I want to say like boozy cherries or, um, you know, boozy apples. You ever have, uh, fruit? I guess you call them drunken fruits. I don't know what you call them, but yeah.
I actually, uh, we just, uh, went to my cousin's of mine's wedding and they had a, uh, It's like a black cherry old fashioned is one of the drinks you could have like three different kinds of drinks. You could get mixed already kind of thing and had like these huge black cherries at the bottom. And of course, you know, I had to have one of those boozy black cherries. Oh yeah.
Going back to the nose, it's just, this is delightful. This is a wonderful, fresh, um, Just right. Ask bourbon has not, you know, um, yeah, it reminds me a little bit of a fruit cake, even almost.
Man, that's, and like you said, I think that another great texture on this, there's, uh, there's a little bit of honey, almost like honey fruit.
Yeah, it has just the right balance of sweetness and spice and bite. It's got a grapefruit note to it. I think the fruit comes across really well. It's not cherry. It's not apple. It's more probably, um. Would you say like overripe pears? Pears, plums, yeah, plums, pears. Maybe the peaches. What's the red pears? Oh, the Anju and then the Anju. Yeah. Yeah. The Anju pairs. Yep. Right. That's a good call out. Yeah. This is a complex. It's delicious. Nice finish. Nice finish. Yes. Great texture. Good proof point too. So you said this was $79 and it was a hundred and fourteen proof.
112.3. 112.3. And the minute I saw it, I was like, I got to try that. Yeah. Good, good pickup.
Always a great place to go to.
So what did you guys do at hard truth? You, uh, uh, we just had lunch.
Okay.
I had the kids and my folks with me. So yeah, great restaurant there. That was back in the early fall and it was blazing hot. It was like 90 plus. Yeah. Yeah. But. If you haven't, you folks haven't revisited these guys in a while. They've still putting out some great stuff and it's nice to see their bourbon. It's some older ages. I know they've got a seven year weeded out there somewhere too.
Well, I only brought two Glencairns for this Todd. So I won't be saving samples for the end.
Okay.
So I got to get it right the first time.
But right now you should have a first place in the second place. So you should, should be good.
I do have a first place in the second place right now.
And I won't say which is which, but okay. And speaking of Randy, I think we're going to have him back on the show very soon.
So that's good. He's always fun to have on.
He wanted to do a bald and bond episode. So I have been able to, uh, find four samples that will be, uh, sharing or sampling with him, hopefully in the near future.
We've got some other stuff coming up too, right? We've got, uh, you just had another giveaway.
Yes, actually just gave it away today. Uh, Adam Dohrman, who was on the show recently, lucky sample pack. Yep. And, uh, I'll be putting something up there tomorrow for folks to sign up and to get that. They just need to make an account on the bourbon road.com. It's pretty simple, pretty easy. And you can catch all the details on that at the end of the show, but yeah, it's, We're always giving away something once a month and try to do it on the first of each month. So lots of fun. Lots of fun.
All right, Todd. Well, let's continue with, uh, with what we have here and, uh, mull over it just a bit, try to make up our mind for sure. I think I'm already set, but it doesn't hurt to revisit one more time. Okay. And, uh, we'll take a break when we come back folks, uh, another half, two more whiskeys and then winter, winter chicken dinner. So don't go. Barton we argue notes vanilla or smoke, but it's all just part of the body All right, Roadies, we finally, finally released our brand new website. All right, listeners, welcome back to the second half of the show. We were having a little bit of a Kentucky-Indiana battle and we're going to flip it again on this side. So our first pour was the Woodford Super Season Oak, the newest release in their Masters collection series. This was number 22. We follow that up with the hard truth, seven-year bourbon, the sweet mash I should add, both really good expressions right there. Yes. As always, we expect only the best from both of those.
And then, you know, both of those had, had a palette that matched the distilleries typical profile. Uh, they were different, obviously as every expression is a little different, but they, they were, although they were unique, they were still good representations of the distillery.
Yeah. I think a lot of barrel character character in both of those too.
Right.
Obviously the older staves on the, the Woodford brought out some really interesting stuff, but all right, let's get into this third one. This is the copper and cask X. This is a 10 year straight bourbon. This is their inaugural batch of this. It's comprised of 45 different barrels, aged between 10 and 12 years. This is a nationwide release. So this is their first kind of foray out into the big world. So all of this was distilled at MGP. The barrels were aged in Indiana, Kentucky, and they're at their warehouse in Rhode Island. The Blaine combines both MGP mash bills, the 7521-4 mash bill and the 60 corn 36 rye and four malted barley mash bill. The proof is 116.4. MSRP is $75. And they're going to release this yearly.
Wow. Fantastic. Yeah. They do price their whiskeys very, very, um, affordable. Agreed.
Let's dive into this nose. All right. Oh.
Oh yeah. This does have a fruity nose.
Mm hmm.
Fruity, spicy. A little bit of cherry cola. Oh, a cola note. Yeah.
Mm hmm.
I'm even getting a little bit of root beer. Ooh. Just a hit and a sass of frass. Wow. And it's changing. The more I knows it, it just, it's morphing a little bit. Agreed. I'm getting a little more oak. The more oak and chocolate.
It's got a little darker. I love that. That's a good shout.
Wow.
I'm expecting some spice with the, it did say they kind of probably used a little more of the 60 corn 36, uh, rye and four, multi-barley mash bill, I think was the heavier of the,
45 great balance between the fruitiness and the oakiness on this. It's, um, Wow. Really nice. And you know, the, the darker notes do come through on the nose and usually you get those more on the palette. Let's see what happens when we taste it. Indeed. I'm excited. Yeah. Cheers. Cheers. Oh yeah. Yeah. It leans a little more to the darker side. You got hints to that fruit, but, um, a little more of the oak, chocolatey, oak, oak. Yes. Yes.
Wow.
That's really good. There's a little bit like orange peel on the finish too. Almost like a, like super concentrated, uh, Old fashioned. I hate to say old fashioned, but it's got like the, like a, this is kind of a dark old fashioned vibe to it, but the flavors. You get any coconut?
No, but I wish I was. I feel like I'm getting just a little bit of coconut there. Coconut and chocolate. That's a mounds bar. I was going to say, are you wanting a mounds bar? We've been talking about Halloween. That is a tasty whiskey. These guys are doing great work. They really are.
Yeah. Steven's doing some great blends. I actually, uh, shared a bunch of the, uh, their wheel horse barrel proof rye. So our good friend, dusty Dan does a kind of a competition between like teams of two. And so what you do is you send out some blinds and you know, he's a video podcast, so that works a little better. And, um, so I, I was lucky enough to send out samples to some guys and I sent that one out and they were really, everybody loved that one.
Yeah. Yeah. The wheel horse now wheel horse is there sort of, um, green river, lower, lower, middle shelf expressions. And then, um, and copper and cask is there, um, more limited special leaks.
Yeah. Tend to be more.
Yeah, I'd definitely get the coconut on it though. It's kind of settled in now. Coconut chocolate. Rich Oak.
Yup. That cherry cola is still kind of there too, but that, like you said, a little bit of chocolate and I wish I could get that coconut. You know, I like some coconut too. All right. Log that one in the banks. All right. I hate to put it down. It's really good. I know. I've got plenty more of that one. If you want some more kind of to send us a whole bottle. All right. So we got a special treat as a poor number four and we got to give a shout out to Lynn Aubrey. She's a Frankfurt Bourbon Society board member and she's also a tour guide at Buffalo trace. So I think it's like once a month of Buffalo trace employees get a They get to take home a bottle just kind of as a thank you. So a lot of times they don't get like the super, super great stuff, but this time they did. So this is Elmer T. Lee. This is the 40th anniversary. This is one of the single barrels. And if you folks, yeah, if you folks are familiar, they sent out an email and you had to sign up and you probably had a one in bazillion chance, but I do know some people that won. And then obviously, well, Lend one, obviously, kinda. So this one comes in at 135 proof, which is, I think range was about 126 proof to about 139 on these. So Elmer T. Lee is Mash Bill 2 and Buffalo Trace is very top secret about their mash bills. So it's expected to be about 85, 80 to 85. corn somewhere between I think 10 and 12 rye and then barley is what's about 10 to eight or something like that. So this Mashbell 2 also, if the fans out there, that's Blanton's, Rockhill Farms, Hancock's, and Ancient Age. The MSRP on this was $100. Like I said, the proof was $135 on this and only available through lottery and pickup. It'll be interesting to see if everybody picked it up because, you know, I know folks that were out of state that were signing up for this. So it'd be interesting to see if everybody comes in, but thank you, Len.
That's a fairly priced bottle.
Yeah, not too bad. I couldn't really find an age statement, but I think I read somewhere like eight to nine years.
Oh, wow. Yeah. All right. Let's check it out. And thank you, Len.
Okay. This is not the biggest nose though, but compared to those other three, it's not really popping out. It's a little dusty.
I'm trying to think of what it reminds me of. It reminds me of an ancient age. Like a dusty ancient age.
Yeah. Okay. Like some sweet cherry.
Yeah. Sweet cherry.
Almost Amaretto-esque a little bit.
Yeah. Not quite that far. It is a wonderful nose. I mean, I, I definitely remember this. This is, this just brings back memories of a, uh, uh, like a, I don't know, just an older ancient age. Great, great nose. Love it. Honey, little tea, little cherry.
It's interesting that it's got the biggest proof and yet. You're getting a lot on this nose, but it's just not really shining like those others to me. Yeah. I'm really happy to dig, but there are some nice notes.
This is, this is just, just, just fired off a memory cell in my brain somewhere. You've had something like this before. Yeah. It's really good.
All right. Cheers.
That's powerful. Yep. That's real whiskey there. Elmer would be proud, I think. Yes, he would. That's really good. That palette trumps the nose big time.
Give you any kind of like stag, stag junior vibes? A little bit. Yeah, just a little. It doesn't come off as It seems like that cherries kind of carried over a little bit. Like I've told you, sometimes I get like almost like a grape soda sometimes from stags.
Yeah, this is, this is very tasty. I could, uh, I could sip on this all evening. Wow.
You brought four great whiskeys tonight, Todd. I know this was, uh, this one was easy to line up. And I was kind of curious to know if that hard truth could hang, but I think it did just well. I mean, it fits well. We've got what? Nine, seven, 10, and probably eight or nine year old single barrel here. Probably two.
So yeah.
So now I will say this, like, where's the finish sitting on you on this one? I don't see it to be kind of like mid front. Yeah.
It's not really, it's making the sides. Mine's on the sides. Definitely a little bit on the front, mostly bed.
Wow. Now I did preview this one, but that's because she shared it at our board meeting. So I knew this was going to be a hit. So yeah, it's really good. Wow. It's a fantastic pour.
No, I mean on, on any given Sunday, um, Elmer tea is not my choice, right? It's okay. It's good. It's a good whiskey, but I normally don't reach for it. Part of that might be because it's hard to get your hands on in the first place. But secondly, because once you do get it, after the long journey to find one, it doesn't live up to the effort that it took to get it. It's good. Elmer tea is a good pour. I like it better than Blanton's. Okay.
I was going, I was getting ready to ask you that if you, if you have saw both on the shelf, you'd pull the Elmer. Yeah.
I think I like Elmer tea a little bit better, but, um, but this is a different animal here. This is not your everyday Elmer tea. This is definitely something different. The proof is, uh, it hits it out of the park when it hits your palate. It is, uh, it's, it's real serious whiskey.
Yeah. That's a mighty fine single barrel right there. Yep.
Yeah. It's going to be a tough call tonight. Yeah. I'm going to go back to the copper and cask because I can't go back to the first two because I already rinsed my glasses.
That's interesting. Going back to the copper and cask kind of gives it that, that cherry cola kind of vibe really pops on that now.
Yep.
Wow. It's going to be a tough one. Yes, sir. I think I got my order though. I think I do too. Okay. You going first tonight or shall I?
I can go first tonight. So my number three is going to be the hard truth.
My number three is going to be the hard truth. Okay. Yeah. I love it. It's really good to. Yeah, it is.
If you've seen this, we might flip flop on this next one. I don't know. But, uh, my number two is going to be the copper and cask.
My number two is going to be the copper and cask. Wow. Okay. Well we did. Yeah. That is like, I'm telling you folks since that's nationwide and at $75 though, if you see that and you like MGP, snag that. Yep. Yep. That's a, cause they price their whiskies. They price their whiskies to move. No doubt about it. And they will move. You're not. You're rarely going to see a 10 year old bourbon of that quality for 75 bucks. Yep. All right.
Number one is going to be the Elmer T40.
for me. Gotta agree with you. Yeah. Okay. All right. Proof. Proof was king today. Interesting. It was. That season oak was really unique though. That's. Yeah.
Yeah. I think, I think what Elizabeth did with that release, uh, the Woodford, it didn't make the top three, but it was, uh, it was nice to see somebody push the limits on things like, uh, stave aging. So I mean, why not?
That's a good idea. Do it. I think the boundaries are right. I think that one thing that I heard it for me was like that finish just dropped off a little too quick compared to these others. Yes, it did. It did.
Four great whiskeys, four wonderful whiskeys. I never, honestly, I never thought I would have a tasting where Elmer T was at the top, but you know, it just, it, it's, that is a great whiskey. And you know, it's a shame that it's not sitting on shelves.
Just to say, I, it may be some bars. I don't know. Maybe a few special tastings at Buffalo trace. I'm kind of curious. Uh, I almost hated to have it on the show because it's going to be a hard, hard one to find for sure.
I, I wish they would do more of that though. I wish they really would. I think Buffalo Trace could, could do a little bit more of the, um, they, they do it sometimes with, uh, uh, uh, the H Taylor, you know, special releases, but they could do it a little bit more with the other stuff. And I know it's their hands are tied a little bit with. with the Elmer T and the Rock Hill Farms and the Blanton's and those, because it's sort of a different side of the business. But I think they could do more of this.
They really could. And I'd love to see it in the waterline too. Right. Well, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't drop some more Elmer T single barrels at some point, because I think this was a hit. It sounded like for the most part, the internet didn't crash to or their website didn't crash. And, you know, I did get my email that said, sorry, you lost. Yeah. But. Yeah, that's really good. They've really up their game on what they're dropping, though. I mean, I think they had cured oak last week. That fantastic. Yep. It's a good time to visit that. I don't know if Rob's still going up there like he used to on, what is it? Wednesdays?
I think Wednesdays or Thursdays, 11 AM. Yep. I don't know if he is or not, but, but yeah, I think he slowed down a little bit on his bourbon buying. Right. The, the rare eagle, the regular bar is full. Right. Right. Well, another great show, Todd, another great lineup. And, uh, I think, uh, our listeners have gotten insights into four new whiskies they can think about. And, uh, I know one of them is a little hard to get their hands on, but, uh, well, maybe they'll get lucky. Maybe, maybe they'll get lucky. Where the good times roll Passing bottles like a piece of soul Every pore's a memory, every sip a spark Lighten up the night in the Kentucky dark Yeah, we laugh too loud, let the worries go Find a little truth in the afterglow Ain't no man, just a ties leave song On the long winding bourbon road Here's to the nights that turned into dawn To the friends who stayed when the rest moved on To the clink of glass and the stories spun And the quiet peace when the night is done On a bourbon road we ain't alone Every mile's marked by the love we've known From barrel to bottle to the hearts we hold there's a fire that never gets old so pour it up let the moment slow a little bit of life in every glow yeah forever we'll call this home on the long winding
